Dema Howard Memorial Celebration Family and friends of Dema Howard, who passed away on October 23, 2010, are invited to join in a celebration of her life from 4-7 PM on Saturday, April 23, 2011. In keeping with her enjoyment of a good party, food and libations will be served, music will be played, and stories of her life will be shared. We will gather at the Edmonds Senior Center, which is located just south of the Edmonds Ferry dock, between the beach and the train station, 220 Railroad Ave. Dema Howard passed away from complications of pneumonia on October 23, 2010 at the age of 89. She was born Dema Dee Ketelle on April 28, 1921, in Eagle Bend, Minnesota. Dema grew up on a farm in Osakis, Minnesota, where she graduated valedictorian of her high school class in 1939.Since 1962 Dema lived with her husband Rey Howard in Edmonds, Washington, where she had a long career as an accountant/bookkeeper working for Dicks Ski Shop and the Edmonds Garden Center.Dema graduated from Edmonds Community College in the 1970s with an Associates Degree in Social Services. She worked for many years with Womens Programs at the college, supporting women in their life transitions and leading writing workshops with small groups.In their retirement, Dema and Rey enjoyed traveling to Mexico, throughout Europe, Bali, and to Holland where Dema was able to explore her ancestral roots.Dema was known as a wonde counselor and friend, an avid gardener, lover of the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and a creative cook and homemaker who found great pleasure entertaining friends and family in her home.Besides her husband Rey, Dema is survived by her daughter Pam, son Gary, her 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Celebration of Demas life will be held with family and friends in the Spring of 2011 around the time of what would have been her 90th birthday.
