Dennis Carl Van Hoy
Sep 27, 1951 — Sep 28, 2025
Dennis lived his life marked by dedication to his family, friends, profession, and community.
Dennis Carl Van Hoy was born on September 27, 1951, in Aschaffenburg, Germany, and passed away on September 28, 2025, in Edmonds, Washington.
Dennis spent his early years in Germany, Georgia, and Wisconsin before settling in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle. He attended St. Margaret’s Elementary School and O’Dea High School before graduating in 1969 from Ingraham High School. Dennis continued his education at Seattle Community College, followed by a brief period working in the metal trades as an ironworker.
He went on to work at the Sears Catalog Distribution Center for over ten years until its closure, which led him to a thirty-year career with The Boeing Company. Dennis retired in 2016 after a lifetime of dedicated work, earning the respect of his colleagues for his integrity and strong work ethic.
Dennis was an avid salmon and bass fisherman and served as a past president of the Seattle Poggie Club. Some of his happiest times were spent on the water fishing or crabbing with his sons or close friends. He was in his element outdoors and looked forward to annual trips throughout the Pacific Northwest—especially Hood Canal, Whidbey Island, and La Conner. He found peace in landscaping and gardening.
He had a deep love of music, favoring funk, soul, and the blues—and he was known for his dance moves. He was also known for his warm personality and sense of humor.
A longtime member of St. Luke Parish in Shoreline, Dennis volunteered as an usher and enjoyed the years he spent coaching CYO soccer, basketball, and baseball. He found pleasure in giving back to his community and spending time with those he loved most.
Dennis was a loving and devoted husband to Joan, his wife of 47 years, and a proud father to his sons Nicholas and Craig. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. Louie R. Van Hoy and Margaret E. (Dohlby) Van Hoy.
Dennis will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who loved him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
A Catholic Mass to celebrate Dennis’ life will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 11:00a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Shoreline.
Following the Mass, there will be a reception in the auditorium.
A graveside service at Holyrood Cemetery will follow at 2 p.m.
