Donald Joseph Navarre

Don Navarre, 57, of Kirkland passed away January 19, 2014 after a courageous 9-year battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Don was born May 22, 1956 in Monroe, MI. He was 10 when his family moved to Bellevue. Don graduated from Interlake High School and the University of Puget Sound with a bachelors degree in business and finance. Don was a true family man. He was devoted to his wife, Janet, and their four daughters. Don enjoyed family vacations in Chelan and spending time with his extended family. He took great pride in his home construction projects including building a two-story, gingerbread-trimmed Victorian playhouse for his girls. Don was also an avid collector and restorer of antique radios. Another great love was Dons second family: the fire service. He was hired in 1990 by the Mountlake Terrace Fire Department after serving five years as a volunteer firefighter in Kirkland. In Mountlake Terrace, Don rose to the rank of Lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain in 2002 after the Mountlake Terrace Fire Department consolidated with Snohomish County Fire District 1. In 2004, Don volunteered for paramedic school and graduated with the 30th Harborview Class of Medic One Paramedics. In recent years, Don embraced a new assignment in the Fire Prevention Division with the same dedication and devotion to community service he displayed as a firefighter, paramedic and station officer. His peers elected him treasurer of the Snohomish County Fire Prevention Association. Don was also honored for the outstanding work he did in fire inspection, investigation and public education as the recipient of the City of Mountlake Terrace Above and Beyond Inspiration Award. Don is survived by his wife, Janet; and four daughters: Andrea, Dani, Jessi and Jacki; his mother, Virginia; his siblings: Rene Navarre, Steve Navarre, Nick Arnold, Shelly Navarre and Mari Navarre-Fink; and longtime friends Jerry Hanley and Dave Arnim. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald C.
