Doris Ruth Staber

Doris Ruth Staber, a gentle, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, died peacefully at home under the care of her family and Evergreen Hospice on February 24, 2012, and was reunited in Heaven with her husband of 69 years, Dan. Doris was the mother of Dan Staber Jr.; grandmother of Kristie Johnson and Jenny Wipprecht; and great-grandmother of Kaylee Alvarado, Stone Wipprecht and Zach Johnson. News that a fourth great-grandchild would join the family filled her with joy. Through Derk Wipprecht and Lee Johnson, she gained two grandsons and through her sons fiance, Barbara Morgan, she gained a daughter. Doris was born in 1923 in Seattle to Walker and Caroline Lanphere and graduated from Ballard High School. At a skating rink in Seattle she met the love of her life, Dan Staber, a Navy man who was stationed at Sand Point Naval Base. It was, simply, love at first sight, and they were married a few months later, before Dan shipped out. After WWII ended, Doris and Dan traveled the world as part of a close Navy family. Wherever Doris went she gathered friends, each of whom stayed special to her and with whom she kept in contact with letters and phone calls over the decades. She prayed the rosary daily and was actively involved in church and chari work. Doris was an avid reader and loved tending the beautiful garden of her Shoreline home, which was the source of bouquets she happily shared with family and friends. No day was complete without some chocolate and phone calls to family and friends, her sweet little dog Ollie always nearby. Announcement: Because it is the Lenten season, please do not send flowers.
