Dorothy Curran Brown

Dorothy (Dot) Curran Brown passed away peacefully the morning of July 16, 2011 in Edmonds, WA. Dot was born Sept. 24, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY but spent much of her childhood in Yonkers, NY before moving to Portland, OR. with her mom and dad, Mae and Joe Curran and her brothers Ed and Joe. Dot met and married Jim Brown in 1947. They had three children, Barbara, James and Jeff before Jim was transferred to Seattle with Shell Oil in 1960. Dot was preceded in death by her son James in 1980 and her husband Jim in 2003. She is survived by her children Barbara Christopher-Connolly (Jack) Jeff Brown (Mary Pat), grandchildren Carrie Elliott (Dan) and Chad Christopher, great grandchildren Meghan and Danny Elliott and many nieces and nephews. When Barb and Jack married in 2007 Dot opened her arms to her adopted grandchildren Pat Connolly, Kristin Burckhard (Scott) and Margy Fossand (Eric) and great grandchildren Ainsley and Thomas Burckhard and Matthew Fossand. Dot lived a full and interesting life and truly enjoyed her childhood in Yonkers, raising her own family in Portland and Edmonds, camping when the kids were young, her work at United Airlines, traveling, Maui, baseball, Edmonds, her church and most of all her family and the friendships she made in her 90 wonde years. Jim and Dot traveled the world with family and friends, but she always had a special place in her heart for Napili Bay, Maui. It was like a second home to her. The white sand, swimming in Napili Bay, the blue sky and gorgeous sunsets were always warm and welcoming just as she was to everyone she knew. Well almost everyone. She was born a Yankee fan and idolized Lou Gehrig and the Bronx Bombers until that d -d Steinbrenner ruined them. She later followed the Mariners with great zeal going to spring training in Arizona and home games in Seattle. She documented their TV games in an official baseball scorebook and once bemoaned the Seattle Times for reporting that Ichiro wfor 4 when she had scored him with 3 hits. The Times printed a correction the next day! She loved her 51 years in Edmonds the quaint downtown, the beach, the Sound, the Olympics and watching the ferries come and go. In that half century in Edmonds she gave much of her time to Holy Rosary parish and the community. Most of all Dot loved people. She had friends all over the country, friends she made while visiting Barb in Alaska, new and old friends in Vancouver and Portland, friends from her 40 years as a reservation agent at United Airlines, friends from The Continental Apartments in Edmonds, friends from Holy Rosary Church and friends in Arizona where she and Jim spent many winters. Dot was a beautiful, strong and caring woman who was loved by all and who will be missed so very much. She is a perfect example of the kind of person we all strive to be. It was an honor to know and love her. Thank you to all for coming to celebrate her life with us and for sending your sympathy and prayers. She is at peace now in the arms of the Lord and she will continue to watch over us and pray for us all the days of our lives, until we meet again.
