Emily Diane Penhollow

Emily passed away peacefully in her home with her closest family members and senior dog by her side after a courageous, almost decade-long battle with cancer on April 29, 2021. Emily was born on December 14, 1973 in Seattle, Washington to James and Lynne Penhollow. She had five brothers: Daniel, Jason, Matthew, David and Andrew Penhollow; whom she deeply loved and cared for. Emily was always creative, talented and brilliant. In her younger years she starred in the Pacific Northwest Ballet’s, “The Nutcracker” and excelled as a ballerina. She later played an acting role in the 1985 movie “Chase”. As a sixth grader, Emily even won her middle school spelling bee against older students. Emily spent her teenage years figuring out what she wanted from life and making unforgettable memories with her brothers, cousins and friends. She later met her then husband, Mark and became a mother to her daughter, Hailey. Emily spent her younger adult life making the best for her daughter as an accountant living in Seattle. During the winter she chaperoned weekly ski trips up to Steven’s Pass and would always be on the water in the summer. She later struck up a running hobby and ended up racing in multiple marathons throughout the United States in her thirties. She used her athleticism and compassion for others and found joy as a track coach in the Special Olympics. Emily later moved to Edmonds, where she lived a quiet life, raising her daughter and dogs. She loved to spend time with her family, going on daily walks with her mother, Lynne, and getting ukulele lessons from her father, Jim. She and her parents enjoyed cheering on Emily’s daughter, Hailey, in sports throughout her life. She loved to be by the water, hiking or riding in her convertible with the top down. After beating breast cancer in her late thirties, Emily took on life with more adventure and passion. She deeply loved the people, animals and world around her. She had hummingbirds whom she named as they were daily visitors, and was able to recover any dying orchid in her “Orchid Hospital”. Everyone knew Emily as loving, funny, and the life of the party. At age 45 Emily’s breast cancer was rediscovered in her liver, lungs and bones. She then started the strenuous two years of countless treatments, appointments, and medications. She used that time to tell AND show the people around her how much they meant to her. She mended relationships and grew closer to everyone around her. She will be deeply missed and her spirit and love will never be forgotten.
