Isabel Edwards Barney

On July 11, 2012, Isabel Claire Edwards Barney passed away peacefully at her home in Shoreline, Washington. She was 87. Mrs. Barney was the daughter of Ira Clair Edwards and Margaret Irene Campbell Edwards, of Indiana. She graduated from Indiana High School in 1943 and Indiana State Teachers College (now IUP) in 1947 with a bachelors degree in Home Economics. She taught at Har-Brack High School in Brackenridge, PA where she met John Barney. They were married on August 5, 1949.In 1962, the Barney family moved to Hagerstown, Maryland. Mrs. Barney taught adult education classes at Hagerstown Junior College (now Hagerstown Community College) for many years, specializing in sewing and tailoring. She was head of the department before she retired from teaching. She was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, made countless hospital gowns for mission hospitals overseas, and met regularly with her prayer group. In 2006, Mr. and Mrs. Barney moved to Shoreline, WA. She enjoyed music, reading, travel, and doing crossword puzzles.Mrs. Barney was pre-deceased by her husband, John, in 2010; her parents; and her sister, Doris Edwards Rairigh. She is survived by her sister, Mary Ellen Edwards Heaton, of Indiana; daughter Mary Beth Barney and son-in-law Larry Murphy of Shoreline, WA; son Ed Barney and daughter-in-law Abby R. Barney of Weathersfield, VT; nieces Cindy Heaton Nelson, Nancy Heaton Bea, and Judy I. Rairigh; nephew David Rairigh; and numerous other family and friends. We miss her very much. A memorial and interment will be held in Indiana at a later date, to be arranged by the Rairigh Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Announcement: Memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimers Foundation or The Alzheimers Association.
