James Philip Harkness 8/8/1925 8/18/2016 WWII Veteran, Author Jim was born in Elk Point, South Dakota to Isaac and Mary Ellen Harkness. He graduated from Snohomish HS in 1942 at 16 years of age. Jim enlisted in the Army in Sept 1943 and participated in the Battle of the Bulge with the 758th F Artillery BN. After being honorably discharged in March 1946, Jim married Ruth Clemens Nentwig in 1951 and had a daughter, Sue Carol (Harkness). During his career with Safeway, Jim met and married his 2nd wife, Dorothy Neal in 1982 and became a loving stepfather to Dorothys 3 children Bill, Theresa and John. Jim enjoyed collecting antiques, writing his memoirs, short stories and poetry. He was also active in his local VFW #8870. Jim is survived by 3 sisters Gladys, Tina, and Fanny of the Midwest. His Daughter Sue Carol (Harkness) Irwin of Renton, Wife Dorothy Mae (Davenport) Neal Harkness of Brier, stepchildren; Bill Neal of Lynnwood, Theresa (Don) Neal of Edmonds, John (Sue Camille) Neal of Brier; 6 grandchildren, TrineLisa, Rhiannan, Bjorn, Katherine Mae, Kyle, and Kathryn Grace and 5 Great Grandchildren.
