James Scott Turney

d. Sep 21, 2026

Scott, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 21st, 2026, at Ashley Gardens in Mount Vernon, WA. Born in Kirksville, Missouri, Scott was the son of James Turney and Barbara Hutson, who preceded him in death along with his brother, Mark Turney.

James, known to many as "Scott," was a man of many talents and passions. He graduated from Meadowdale High School in 1972, and went on to lead a life filled with diverse experiences and careers. A true jack of all trades, Scott made a significant impact in the food industry, working as a chef in private and corporate catering. He was particularly fond of his time at the Premiere nightclub in Seattle, where he could merge his dual loves of cooking and music. Scott also showcased his culinary skills as a chef at Anthony's HomePort in Edmonds, WA, and ventured into entrepreneurship with his own food stall at the Bite of Edmonds.

Scott's passions extended far beyond his professional endeavors. A record-breaking swimmer from a young age, he was talented enough to qualify for the Olympic Trials, an achievement he cherished. His artistic abilities were equally impressive, with a knack for drawing that allowed him to replicate any image with precision. Music was another of his lifelong loves, with rock and alternative genres holding a special place in his heart. And his passion for cooking was most on display when he was cooking for his family and friends.

Despite his many talents, Scott will be most remembered for his warmth, humor, and storytelling. He had an uncanny ability to connect with people, leaving smiles in his wake wherever he went. Whether in the grocery store line or at family gatherings, Scott's stories were legendary, filled with humor and heart.

Scott is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Maria Turney, whom he married on July 14th, 2002, and by his two beautiful daughters, Kayleigh Partlow and BreeAnna Turney, who were the pride of Scott's life. He is also survived by his sister, Tami Robbins, whom he loved dearly. Scott's family and friends will forever treasure the love and joy he brought into their lives.

A service to celebrate Scott's life will be held on October 5th, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Beck's Tribute Center, located at 405 5th Ave S, Edmonds, WA 98020.

Scott's light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever.
