Janice Ann Bogen

120% Janice Ann was born in Sept. 26, 1940 in Seattle, WA to Katherine and Ed Burles. She grew up in Queen Ann with her older sister, Carolyn. 120% Janice went to Queen Ann High school. In 1958, she was married to Otto Bogen. She had three children: Brian, Carrie, and Gary. In 1968 she and her family moved to Edmonds. 120% Janice was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker when her kids were young. She loved to can, cook, and bake. The garage had shelves lined with mason jars filled with her home-canned goods. 120% Before Christmas mom baked cookies with a frenzy! Everything from krumkake, fattimand, spritz, and lefse. We were allowed one cookie a day each before Christmas so we would have plenty for Christmas time. Consequently, we ate Christmas cookies until February. I can still smell home-made bread and rolls baking in the oven. 120% Two of her specialties were her roast leg of lamb and potato salad. She would always make potato salad for Gary before he left for Alaska to go fishing. 120% When her kids were older Janice decided to go to work. She worked as a waitress at the Wind Jammer and Canal Restaurant in Ballard. Janice also waited tables at the Nile Country Club and was a meat wrapper at Petosas in Edmonds. Her last job was working in the deli at QFC in Richmond Beach. 120% Traveling was one of moms favorite enjoyments. Mexico, Boston, New York City and her most favorite of all, was Maui. She went many times; the last time was in November for a month. Janice was a super fan of the Seahawks and the Mariners and didnt miss watching them on television. Talk radio was another of Moms favorites. She had KJR Sports Talk dialed in on her car radio! 120% Janice had many friends and loved to see them. One of her favorite places was the Channel Marker at happy hour where she enjoyed a good vodka and tonic! Slot machines anyone? Mom loved to go! 120% Janice Ann is survived by her loving family: Otto Bogen, daughter, Carrie Kraft, son Gary Bogen, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one more on the way! 120% Preceding her in death were her parents, Katherine and Ed Burles, son Brian Bogen, and sister Carolyn Rudolph. 120% We want to thank everyone for their many acts of kindness and for joining us in celebrating Janice Anns life.
