John Braddock Jacobs

May 14, 1933 — Jan 22, 2012

Long-time Vancouver resident John B. Jacobs died January 22, 2012, at his daughters home in Edmonds, Washington. Mr. Jacobs was born on Mothers Day, May 14, 1933 in Nashua, NH to Donald and Marguerite Jacobs. His father was a senior captain in the coast guard, and the family moved several times, including stops in Fernindina Fl, Seattle WA, Staten Island NY, Portland ME and Atlantic City NJ. He attended South Portland High School in Maine, graduating in 1951, where he was a standout athlete and scholar. Mr. Jacobs attended Colby College, where he played on the varsity football, basketball and baseball teams. He graduated college with a degree in Philosophy and entered the Navy, serving from 1955 to 1957, stationed in Little Creek VA. Mr. Jacobs married Thresa Egnor on March 17, 1961 and the couple had four children. He spent the vast majority of his career as a Service and Sales Engineer for Albany International. After stops in Cleveland, Albany NY, and Kalamazoo MI, the family settled in Vancouver, Washington in 1972. His passion for sports continued long after his playing days were over and he followed the local sports teams with the utmost dedication (and frustration). He is survived by his wife Thresa, brothers Donald and Robert Jacobs, daughter Suzanne Versnel, son Donald Jacobs, daughter Frannie Galley, and son (John) Braddock Jacobs II, as well as his five adoring grandchildren.
