Joyce E. Barry

December 15, 1937 — May 29, 2026

Joyce E. Barry our beloved mom and grandma died peacefully on May 29th, 2026, with her family by her side. Despite experiencing a stroke several years earlier, her infectious love for life, adventurous spirit, and fiercely independent personality stayed with her to the end. Joyce was born December 15th, 1937, in Kirkland, WA as the first of three children to Robert and Catherine Barry of Carnation, WA. Joyce loved growing up on the family farms in Duvall and Carnation, and fondly recalled many memories of milking cows, riding horses, and ice skating on the family lake. After graduating from Holy Names Academy in Seattle, she completed her studies with a degree in Spanish from Marylhurst College in Oregon. Joyce worked as a corrections officer at the King County Jail for over 25 years, retiring in 1997 to spend more time with her grandchildren, travel the world, and live life to the fullest. A longtime resident of Mountlake Terrace, she served 8 years on the city council and was active in various civic and church clubs locally. She had many passions in life, but nothing was more important to her than family and her Catholic faith. Her boisterous laugh, love of music, and larger-than-life personality will be remembered fondly by her family, her many friends, and all who knew her. Joyce is survived by her son Michael Ramsey (Brenda), grandchildren Julie (Wyatt) and Kevin, her daughter Elizabeth Barry, grandson Michael, her brother Robert, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Roberta. A requiem mass in the traditional Latin rite will be celebrated at North American Martyrs Catholic Church 9924 232nd St SW Edmonds, WA, 90820 on Monday June 15th, 2026, at 11am. Immediately following the mass, interment will be at Holyrood Cemetery with a reception at North American Martyrs from 1:30-3pm. Remembrances can be made in Joyce’s name to North American Martyrs Parish at the address above.
