Lorraine Catherine Ashby
February 24, 1963 — July 20, 2012
Lorrie was born on Feb. 24, 1963 in Seattle, Wash. She was raised in Lynnwood and attended special education classes in Edmonds School District. She received a Diploma, for satisfactorily completing a special course of study, from Maplewood School in Edmonds, WA in 1984. She began her association with Work Opportunities in Lynnwood, WA in 1988 where she was trained in job skills and worked at the Lynnwood Center and at enclaves at Eldec and Solectron before moving on to an enclave at the Snohomish County Public Works Department in 2001 where she had numerous friends. Going to work each day was a highlight of her life. Lorrie loved snow skiing when she was younger, but preferred only spring (warm weather) skiing in the last few years. She always loved bowling and her group of Bowling Buddy friends who bowl together each Saturday and do many other activities during the year. She was very enthused about Special Olympics bowling and golf and the Work Opportunities Bowlarama each year. Lorrie also loved going to the casinos to try her luck at the slots and especially roulette. Playing any game was a favorite pastime with family and friends. Lorrie also loved traveling and especially enjoyed a trip to Hawaii a year ago to visit her Bowling Buddy friend who had moved to the Big Island. Lorrie joined her mother, Margie Wilson, and brother, Brad Ashby, on July 20, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her dad and step-mom, Don and Bobbie Ashby; step-father, Glen Wilson; brothers Larry (Everett), Scott (Skykomish), and Bryan (Mike Eskew) (Portland, OR); and sister-in-law Karla Thorner (Port Orchard). She is also survived by four nephews: Nic, Kyle (Chelsea), Nick Fattal (Stephanie), and Tyler; 2 nieces, Emilee and Nico Ashby-Eskew; and a great-nephew, Maverick Ashby. She loved little ones and four-year-olds Emilee, Nico, and Maverick have been the loves of her life the last 4 years. Announcement: In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Work Opportunities, 6515 - 202nd St. S.W., Lynnwood, WA 98036; or to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
