Lorraine Elizabeth (Cody) BalinFormerly of Mercer Island passed away peacefully March 20, 2017.Born April 21, 1921 in Yakima Washington to John and Loretta Cody. She met her future husband Maurice Balin during WWII at a gathering at Eagles Auditorium in Seattle. He was recuperating from injuries he sustained serving as a Marine. They married on April 29, 1944 starting their 70-year adventure together. A tall striking beauty, known for her style and flair for fashion. She was naturally poised, graceful and exuded old Hollywood Glamour. Her most attractive attribute was her kind heart, sentimental spirit and unconditional love; along with her dedication and loyalty to her family and friends. She enjoyed entertaining for holidays and family celebrations. She loved music, interior decorating and flowers. She was a devout Catholic who attended St. James Cathedral; where she volunteered for various charitable activities, along with her husband Maurice. She is survived by her children Carol E. Watson, Claudia Shackleford, Lisa Young and Francine Balin; grandchildren, Monica Rehnstrom (Steve), Colin Murphy (Kathryn), Kennith Jefferson (Tracey) and Karalee Barbee (Earl); great-grandchildren Madyson, Jaxon, McKenna, Bryce and Avery. She will forever be in our hearts.A celebration of her life will be held privately for family and friends.
