Margaret Strothman

Margaret (Peggy) Strothman was born at her familys home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1917. She passed away peacefully in Lake Forest Park on Sept. 21, 2013. Gifted with both beauty and intellect, Peggy was a sussful businesswoman, loving wife, generous mother and grandmother, and a friend to all. t the close of WWII, she married Bill Strothman, a young pharmacist with high aspirations. They soon moved to the Pacific Northwest and launched the first of their family-owned stores. Their first business venture, the Terrace Pharmacy, was an old fashioned drug store complete with a soda fountain. The suss of that venture led to their next store, Thriftime Drugs, located first in Auburn and then in Shoreline. While Bill ran the pharmacy, Peggy managed the business. She loved interacting with neighborhood customers, who often became friends. Peggy and Bill loved living in the Northwest. Their favorite times may have been cruising though the San Juans and beyond. Laughter, Salmon, and joy abounded. When Bill retired in 1977, Peggy continued working at a neighborhood store in the Shoreline area, where she was regularly voted best sales clerk by her customers. She was finally excluded from the competition, so other employees could get a chance to win! It was only because of poor eyesight that she finally decided to retire at the age of 82. Her home was always open to those who needed a place to stay. She took in neighborhood kids whose families were hit with difficult times, and always welcomed friends who needed a temporary home. Peggy loved the waters, mountains and lush forests of Washington State. She took great joy in the majestic firs that surrounded her Shoreline home, and she absolutely loved her Whidbey Island beach cabin. Both homes were host to many memorable moments with family and friends. Margaret was surrounded by her family during her last days, and she passed away peacefully. She is survived by her daughter Loretta (Duane), her son Bill Jr. (Nora), her grandson Daniel (Kari), her granddaughter Heidi (Daniel) and her sister, Agnes Claire (Ed). She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonita, and her husband, Bill. The family would like to thank the staff at Angel Care Adult Family Home in Lake Forest Park for their loving care of Peggy in her last months. We are also appreciative of her special friendship with Ellis Bull, with whom Peggy enjoyed many adventurous outings in her later years. Funeral Mass will take place October 3 at St. Marks Roman Catholic Church in Shoreline where Peggy and Bill were founding members. Services start at 11:00 am.
