Mary Helen Economou

Mary Helen Economou was born July 27, 1932, in Spokane, Washington. She passed peacefully in her sleep on November 18, 2020. Mary's family moved to Seattle in 1938 where they lived on a farm that later became part of the Kubota Gardens. Mary had fond memories of growing up there enjoying wonderful times with her two beloved sisters, Effy and Paulene, and her cousin Jean. After graduating from Franklin High School, she worked at Fruehauf Trailers for several years. Later, she worked for Lamont's Department Store where she made many lifelong friends. Mary will always be remembered for her kindness, selflessness, and her incredible grit. She was well known for her generous philanthropy for the many causes she championed such as the Wounded Warrior Project and Save the Children. Her greatest love in life though was her children. Always giving her undivided attention to them as an amazing mother and later in life, a wonderful friend. She looked forward to Sunday dinners where all of the children and grandchildren would gather to catch up and share stories. Mary had a great sense of humor. There was a lot of laughter at home, though her kids didn't find it very funny when she was out in the neighborhood picking horta! She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tom, and her daughter, Maria. She is survived by her children, Chris (Marla), Ann, Tom (Michelle), Angela, her 9 adored grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Pt. Drive, Tampa, FL. 33607, www.Shrinershospital.org. Funeral Service: 11/25/20, 11:00am, St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2100 Boyer Ave E. Seattle. Due to the Governor's orders, we will be following all Coivd-19 precautions.
