Maureen Helen Robb Butterfield

Surrounded by her four daughters, Maureen Helen Robb (Taylor) Butterfield, of Edmonds, WA passed away on March 12, 2016. Maureen, born in Dundee, Scotland was active and independent for all of her 93 years. She is survived by daughters: Helena Rowse (Brian), Lorna Butterfield, Sandra Butterfield, Sheila Gipson (Carlton); four grandchildren: Derek Weigel (Elizabeth), Carl Gipson (Bethany), Karissa Richards (Michael) and Tyrone Gipson; nine great-grandchildren: Anjelica and Madison Weigel; Ruby, Eva and Olive Gipson; Kahlil, Kylie, Malakai and MyElli Richards; nephew Chris Backman (Georgia) and families; Butterfield families in Oregon and Idaho; and dearly loved Taylor family relatives in Scotland, England, South Africa, New Zealand, and Canada. As well as countless wonderful friends in the Northwest, California (RCB) and beyond. Preceded in death by husband, Russ, infant daughter Karen, and infant great-grandson Carlton Abe Gipson. Maureen served in the British Army Anti-Aircraft Artillery in Londons Eastside during WWII. She met her husband, Russell Butterfield, who served with US Army Air Corps, at a Stage Door Canteen in Piccadilly Circus, London on the last day of the war, August 14, 1945, where he asked her to dance. They were married at St. Johns Church in Dundee in November, 1945 and continued their dance for 54 years until Russ passed in the year 2000. Maureen and Russ resided in the Puget Sound area of Washington State near the mountains and water they loved, spending many years skiing, hiking, and boating. They were actively involved in volunteer and community activities throughout their lives. As daughters we feel blessed to have had our parents with us for a long time as they were truly the wind beneath our sails. They gave us the gifts of unconditional love and great experiences. We cherish our memories.
