Michael James Moffitt

Michael Moffitt died peacefully at 8:46 a.m. on May 5, 2016, after a very long battle with vascular dementia. Michael was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the eldest child of George J. Moffitt, MD, and Margaret Jean Whittier Moffitt. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Kathleen, and is survived by his wife, Marie; sons, Nicholas (Eureka) and George Moffitt; granddaughter, Zoe Moffitt; and sister, Mary W. Moffitt. After receiving his BA in Classical Languages and Literatures from Gonzaga University, Michael went on to earn an MA in Classics and a MLib in Librarianship at the University of Washington. He was a reference librarian at the Central Library of the Seattle Public Library for thirty-one years, specializing in the areas of Classical Languages and Literatures, Slavic Languages and Literatures, Philosophy, and Religion. The family suggests remembrances to the building fund at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church in Shoreline, WA, or to Mdecins Sans Frontires/Doctors Without Borders.
