Phyllis Mary Volk

Phyllis (Kelso) Volk was born in Seattle, Washington January 7, 1929 to Roy and Eve Kelso. She was preceded in death by her brother David and is survived by her sister Diane and brother Burt. Her family moved to Canada during the Great Depression. She lived with her Aunt Blanche in Indiana as a young teen. She briefly joined the convent, later enlisting in the US Navy. While stationed in Charleston, SC she met the love of her life, Urban Volk and was soon married. They moved to Seattle and started a family. Phyllis was a dedicated mother to six children. Urban and Phyllis were founding members of St. Mark Catholic Church. She painted lovely landscape and water scenes. She was an avid reader of novels and nonfiction, and she could recall names, dates and details with stunning accuracy. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, as well as extended trips to Hawaii for more than 20 winters. After the death of her husband she enjoyed years at Aegis Assisted Living until the final six months when she moved to Aegis Callahan House Memory Care. Phyllis passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 13, 2017.
