Richard Wayne Wahlbrink
February 28, 1951 — October 24, 2015
Richard Wayne Wahlbrink, age 64, passed away on October 24, 2015. Rick was a wonde husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend. He grew up in Oceanside, CA with his parents Lewis and Joan Wahlbrink and younger sister Kathy (John) Pepper. His summertime vacations with family would be spent camping in the mountains and fishing in the nearby lakes. At a young age, Rick quickly became a wonde fisherman but he also enjoyed surfing. He couldnt wait until school was out then he could head for the beach with his surfboard! He loved the blue sky and sunshine; he spent many days surfing.Previously married to Raelene Piha, Rick became a father to Troy Wahlbrink, Ryan (Katrina) Wahlbrink and Elizabeth (Erik) Yurkanin. After 15 years of marriage, the two divorced but still continued to strongly parent their children in a loving way.In 1989 he fell in love with Kimberly Houghton and they became husband and wife in 1991. A year after the wedding, he became a father to Cady Wahlbrink. Rick raised all four children with love and support. Every opportunity available to him, he would help someone out. You could always count on Rick for anything especially a good time.He loved to entertain a house full of people with Kim by his side. They would serve delicious food and great wine. Rick was a good cook and loved to serve fresh salmon he caught to his family and friends. Rick was a grandfather to three wonde grandchildren - Shae Wahlbrink, Trenton Wahlbrink and Ayla Yurkanin. He loved spending time with each of them every chance he got. He knew how to tell everyone how much he appreciated and loved them. Rick was a strong man who was not afraid of saying his opinion. You always knew Rick was in the room because of his loud voice and laugh. He never backed down in an argument and always liked to be right (whether he was or not). Rick loved to watch sports including football, baseball, golf and NASCAR. He was a mentor and wonde coach for Troy and Ryans sor teams. He was also very involved in Elizabeths sor team and Cadys high school dance team. He worked as a top salesman for HD Supply in Marysville for 26 years. His coworkers and customers became dear friends of his and held him in high regard. He loved life, enjoyed people, cared about others and shared his laughter with all of us. He was preceded in death by his mother Joan Wahlbrink. A Celebration of his life will be on November 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Edmonds Yacht Club. Address: 326 Admiral Way, Edmonds, WA 98020.
