Rose Marie Snider
Nov 9, 1928 — Jun 23, 2026
Rose Marie Snider passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and having lived a life of 97 years filled with family, friends, and many adventures.
Rose Marie Snider was born in Decatur, Alabama, moving to Arlington, TX at age 2. She was an excellent student, finishing high school at age 16. She worked while attending the local college and met the love of her life, Homer David “Abe” Snider, who had recently returned home from serving in the Navy during WW2. After marrying in 1948, their love story lasted 70 years. When Abe finished his engineering degree at Texas A & M, they moved to Port Arthur, Texas in 1949. There, they had three wonderful children and a host of great friends. Always full of energy and a keen interest in learning, Marie raised her children, volunteered greatly in her community, and managed to go back to college later in life finishing her B.A. in 1976. After teaching high school history for several years, she completed her Master’s degree and began teaching at Lamar University Port Arthur, which she loved. This led her to complete her PhD in Education at Texas A&M University while still teaching. After retiring, she and Abe moved to Marble Falls, TX, where they enjoyed many years of busy retirement. Marie was very active in the church, the Meadowlakes POA, the Highland Lakes A&M club, bridge clubs, women’s groups and helped lead the effort to build a new Marble Falls Public Library. She loved to travel and learn new things, and over the years made many trips, both international and domestic, with close friends and family. Always a gracious Southern woman, she accomplished so much and is our heroine.
Marie is survived by her three children, Gayle (Norm) Davis, Robert Snider, and Joy Snider (Andrea), her five grandsons, Mike (Traci) Davis, Chris (Karyn) Davis, Andy (Shelby) Snider, Xander and Zachary Millsap, as well as five beloved great grandchildren, Abigayle, Avery, and Ruby Sue Davis, and Paxton and Cooper Snider. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, and by her two siblings.
The family extends its sincere thanks to her wonderful caregivers from FRHC, and to Continuum Care Hospice for their compassionate and skilled help to us in her final days.
At her request, her memorial will be a family trip to Kauai in the future, one of her favorite places, to celebrate her life and spread her and her husband’s ashes. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to one of her favorite places: Texas A & M University or the Texas A & M Foundation (myaggieland.txamfoundation.com); OR the Marble Falls, TX, Friends of the Library:
