Roy Edward Nehl

Roy Edward Nehl, 66, was born on July 19, 1960, and died of cancer on August 24, 2026, while receiving hospice care in Edmonds, Washington.

Roy will be remembered for his quick wit, athletic ability, adventurous nature, and ornery streak. As a boy, he made friends easily and was well liked. In his teenage years, he began following his own path, choosing to live life on his own terms and making decisions others might not have made. That independent spirit remained an important part of who he was.

Roy also enjoyed golf and, with the confidence and humor his family knew so well, considered himself the best golfer among his brothers. He was an avid follower of University of Washington football, Seattle Seahawks football, and professional golf tournaments. His wit, individuality, and lively personality will be remembered by those who knew him.

Roy’s life also included a long struggle with drug addiction. His choices caused pain, sometimes profound for his family and friends, and he often found it difficult to accept responsibility for the harm his actions caused. His family remembers him for his humor as well as for his poor behavior, holding both the good memories and the difficult ones as parts of a complicated life.

Roy is survived by his wife, Rhonda Sue; his sons, Michael Royer and Zachery Nehl; his brothers, Timothy (Joy Mandel), Robert (Eileen), and Martin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He was predeceased by his parents Earl and Jane Nehl and his sister Nancy Weishaar (Emo).

Funeral Service

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Holy Rosary Parish, 630 Seventh Avenue North, Edmonds, Washington 98020. A reception will follow the funeral Mass in the parish pastoral center on the church grounds. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 Northeast 205th Street, Shoreline, Washington 98155.
