Thomas Jay Mcmillin, Sr.

Thomas (Mac) McMillin was born January 8, 1922 in Lima, Ohio. He passed away on April 23, 2011 in Lynnwood, Washington.A World War II Navy Veteran, he served as Chief Pharmacist Mate aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Oklahoma before transferring to land operations at Pearl Harbor in 1941, where he served with a sub-surface recovery team until February 1942. As a freshman engineering student he decided to defer studies and together with several classmates enlisted in the Armed Forces. Thomas returned to civilian life in 1946.Mr. McMillin was Administrative Director for Clinical Laboratory Services, Department of Pathology, at Columbus-St. Cabrini Hospital in Seattle from 1951 to 1986. During his career he served as consultant to numerous clinics, hospitals and medical centers throughout the Pacific Northwest and was instrumental in establishing the first full service Nuclear Medicine Departments in Seattle.He joined the Catholic Church in 1950 and had a deep and tireless faith. Over the years he resided in the Parishes of St. Alphonsus, St. Benedict, St. John, St. Luke and Holy Rosary. Words of his life and his person can only be expressed by those who knew him.He enjoyed fishing, small game hunting, hiking and camping. Cooking and gardening were very special to him. He was a very meticulous Bonsai care giver and shared his enthusiasm with everyone. He was a lifelong fan of Ohio State University Football and enjoyed Seattle Mariners baseball. He was an avid swimmer and gymnast in high school and remained very active throughout most of his life.He was preceded in death by June McMillin, his heart of hearts, mother of their 9 children and beloved wife of 47 years.He is survived by his daughters Roberta Brown and husband Bob; Sharon Reynolds and husband Dave; Mary Kelly and husband Von; Colleen Haynes and husband Rich; and Donna McMillin and sons Thomas McMillin Jr. and wife Maribeth; Michael McMillin; Dan McMillin; Jim McMillin and 22 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren and a large host of extended family members.
