Wade Hampton Purcell, Jr.

Wade Hampton Purcell Jr., age 76, passed away August 20, 2014, in Seattle, shortly before his 77 birthday. He was born August 24, 1937, to Wade H. Sr. and Anne (Steinmeyer) Purcell. After graduating from Wenatchee High School in 1955, Wade moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington where he received an undergraduate degree in Far Eastern Studies. He worked as a taxi driver for the Yellow Cab Company in Seattle for many years. Wade was on staff at Hardwicks where he had been employed for the past 33 years. Hardwicks owners were kindly accommodating him with a flexible work schedule during his semi-retirement.An avid reader, Wade was a man of many interests. He enjoyed wood- working and carpentry, listening to classical music, researching family genealogy, and photography-especially taking pictures of city scenes in Seattle. Several of his old photographs have been printed in the Seattle Now Then column of the Seattle Times. Wade was a regular customer at Caf Allegro, and could often be found reading a book there during his lunch break or on his days off.Wade is survived by a nephew, nieces, and families; two sisters-in-law; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Wade Sr.; mother Anne; and half-brothers Frank and Jim. The family extends grateful thanks to Wades friends, neighbors, the Hardwicks Hardware Store community including his employer, co-workers, and customers for their kindness over the years.The family will host a memorial on Sept. 21, 3:30 5:30pm at Caf Allegro, 4214 University Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105.
