Warren Robert Little

Warren was born at home on Cedar Way in 1927 to Warren Alwin (Al) and Elenore Little, one of the pioneer families of Alderwood Manor. He passed away at Sweedish Hospital , on January 17, 2014 with his family at his side. Warren graduated from Edmonds High School and served with the Merchant Marines sailing to Japan and Korea. Warren was a journeyman carpenter and made a name for himself as a master finish carpenter and artisan. His legacy remains in many premier homes throughout the Pacific Northwest. Family members treasure the finely crafted pieces he made and gave to them over the years. Warren returned to Alderwood Manor, met and married Marie Joyce Sherwood in 1951. They lived for a brief time in Seattle returning to Warrens roots in Alderwood Manor where they built the family home only a block away from where Warren was born at the homestead on Cedar Way. Warren and Marie raised their family and lived in the home Warren built for the rest of their lives. Warren was predeceased by the love of his life Marie, in February, 2010. He is survived by son Brett (Dawn) and daughter Ellen (Peter), grandchildren Reuben (Glennys), Aurora (Kristian), Erin, Brooke, Michelle, Hans and Brittany, and by great-grandchildren Kailey, Gunnar, AnneMarie, Ridley, Michael, Maddox and Melia. Warren was predeceased by his sister Alice and by brothers, George, Jim and Roy. He is survived by brother, Bill Little, and sisters Lois Merville, Lila (David) Alexander, and Sharon Turner, sister-in-law Saundra Little, and numerous nieces and nephews. Warren was a proud and quiet man never the out front member of the family. He was the rock we depended on quietly working behind the scenes supporting us all. He was keenly interested in the activities of his family and so proud of Maries accomplishments for the preservation of Alderwood Manor history. He often said that the world was a better place because Marie was in it. Warren worked on many of her projects including the restoration of the Superintendents Cottage at the Alderwood Manor Heritage Park. Warren was also known for his sly sense of humor and for his practical jokes. His bark was most always worse than his bite and you just had to look for the twinkle in his eye to tell the difference. He was fond of debate and loved to argue both sides of any topic just to get a good discussion going. Warren was most often found working in his shop or in his garden with his coffee cup by his side. He won ribbons for his prize rhododendrons at the Seattle Rhododendron Show and won 2nd place for a lightship basket he entered in the Edmonds Arts Show. He never travelled far from home where he was the truly the happiest. Donations in memory of Warren can be made to the Alderwood Manor Heritage Assocation. To honour Warrens memory, plant a tree, a shrub or bulb. Better yet, plant veges and share the extras with a food bank. Thats what Warren would have done.
