Wilbur Stanley Durgin

Stan Durgin quietly passed away on November 27, 2013 surrounded by his children, grand children, and his beloved wife, Beverly. He will long be remembered for his deep love of family and his gregarious personality; he was a man who loved to laugh and who wore his heart on his sleeve. Born in Tacoma, Washington on January 17, 1932 to Mary (Marzano) and Stan Durgin Sr, he grew up in a large extended Italian family a heritage of which he was very proud. He attended Bellarmine Prep followed by serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. After leaving the service, he married the love of his life and they moved to California where he became a police officer and started a family. Ultimately he returned with his family to the Pacific Northwest and began work in sales, which anyone who knew him saw as a natural fit for his personality. Stan had a strong entrepreneurial spirit with a thirst to take on new endeavors. Through the years he owned a steak house restaurant in Seattle, multiple duplex rental properties, and laundromats. In addition, he obtained his general contractors license to build a home for his family. Stan had a zest for life and his range of interest was broad. He enjoyed boating, music and dance, the theater, cooking and hosting dinners for family and friends, reading, and genealogy. One of his longtime passions was buying and restoring Austin Healy sports cars. His grandkids fondly remember cruising down the road in a Healy with the top down to get a burger and a shake with their Pa. Stan is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly; his daughters Terry Darrow (Mark) and Nancy Durgin (Larry); his son Patrick Durgin; his nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sons Timothy and Michael. Our husband, dad, grandpa, and uncle, leave us with many memories of fun and laughter he will be missed.
