Albin C. Slesinski

"Palmer - Albin C. Slesinski , 96, previously of Holbrook St., passed away April 19, 2015. Born December 16, 1918 in Northampton, he was the son of Franciszek and Franciszka (Slesienska). Growing up on the small family farm shaped his life. At Northampton High School, Al excelled in basketball and baseball. Al proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII, and was a disabled veteran, honorably discharged in 1942. Following his discharge, Al attended Northampton Commercial College and furthered his education at AIC, where he received his BA in accounting. He has lived in Palmer since 1962, previously residing in Northampton. Al worked for 25 years at the Armory in Springfield, where he was an accountant and achieved many awards for his work. He was also a member of the Palmer Grange, Palmer Senior Citizens Club, Palmer Golden Agers, and a life member of the DAV Ludlow 94 as well as attending the Second Congregational Church in Palmer. Al could be found at any of the athletic events in Palmer, as he was an avid sports fan of all men and women's high school sports teams. Al was declared to be Palmer's #1 sports fan. He was honored by having an athletic field named for him. Al was also a founding member of the GHO (Greater Holbrook Open). Al was predeceased by his wife Mabel (Johnson) in 1982 along his nine siblings, Frances Skarzynski, Josephine Liskiewicz, Tessie Mokrzecki, Jessie Waskiewicz, Elizabeth Kieras, Charles Slesinski, Peter Slesinski, and Frank Slesinski, Fr. Sebastian (John) Slesinski. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. All services will be privately held and Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Al's parting words were "Goodbye world. It was nice." For those wishing, donations may be made in honor of Al to the Friends of the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040 or to the Athletic Fund at Palmer High School for students' athletic fees, 4105 Main St., Palmer, MA 01069."
