Annie C. Mcgarrett

"Belchertown, MA- Annie C. (Breen) McGarrett 76, passed away February 24, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born June 8, 1939 in Dublin, Ireland, daughter of the late Katherine (Dames) Breen and the late John Breen. Annie lived most of her life in Belchertown and traveled every year back to her home of Dublin. Annie was a devout Catholic. She was one of a kind. A child of 8 she was the oldest and only girl. She traveled to America with her late husband Leslie R. McGarrett who was military police for the United States Air force. While in America, Annie worked through many jobs, as a hairdresser, seamstress, waitress, sales representative and the most important job a single mother of 3 children, all while obtaining her Doctoral Degree in Education at the University of Massachusetts, which she then later utilized at Peck Jr. High school in Holyoke, MA as a Bilingual Special Education Teacher for 18 years. As a women of the world Annie was fluent in 5 different languages and loved to travel. With her list of accomplishments, Annie helped inspire and encourage mostly all of the people she came into contact with. She mostly enjoyed on her own time Gardening, the game Bingo and spending quality time with her Grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her 3 Children Brendan McGarrett, Kerry Iles and her husband James Iles and Maureen McGarrett all of Belchertown, MA, Her Grandchildren Kaylyn Utley, Cory McGarrett, Katherine Britt, Brooke Patterson, Maura DeSimone and Bryce Iles along with her step grandchildren Kiley Penny and Sylvia Braster. Her loss is also greatly felt by her beloved brothers Paddy Breen of London, England, Brendan, Jimmy, Joseph, Brian, the late John and the late Noel Breen along with all of their wives, all of Dublin, Ireland. With too many to list, every single family member and friend near and afar are feeling the impact. Especially her god daughter Nadia Bowes. The list of lives that she touched is long. Mom you taught us so much in life but you never taught us how to live with out you. To the world you were our Mother but to us you were our world. Annie's services are at Beers & Story Belchertown funeral home Monday February 29, 2016 from 5pm-7pm followed by church services on Tuesday March 1, 2016 at her parish St. Francis of Assisi at 10am, both of which are located in Belchertown, Ma. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. "
