"Thorndike - Anthony T. Donato Jr., 73, died on February 17, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Born February 1, 1945 in Danbury, CT, son of Anthony T. Donato, Sr. and Effie (Romaine) Donato. He proudly served his country in the US Army in two tours during Vietnam. He has lived in Thorndike since 1981 and previously lived in Monson. Anthony retired from Hamilton Sunstrand where he worked as a sheet metal worker for over 20 years. Anthony loved spending time outdoors and relaxing on his deck. He also enjoyed always helping out his family and friends doing side jobs excavating with his bobcat. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Bridget (Ciufo) Donato of Thorndike and three children Maria Donato of Thorndike, Teresa Donato of Palmer and Anthony Donato of Palmer. He also leaves a brother, Armando Donato of New Milford, CT, six grandchildren Joseph, Samantha, Chelsea, Lauren, Ava and Anthony, 2 great grandchildren Colton and Paisley and nephew Duane Schirmer, Jr. and his wife Vittoria. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by son Anthony T. Donato, III, three brothers, John, Joseph and Frank Donato, and his sister and brother in law Helen and Duane Schirmer, Sr. A Graveside service will be held on February 27, 2018 at 11:30 am at Wooster Cemetery, 20 Ellsworth Ave., Danbury, CT. Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. For those wishing, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to West Haven VA - Cancer Survivor Room."
