Carol A. Barrett

"Hadley - Carol A. (Cunningham) Barrett, 76, of Hadley, passed away July 15, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born September 12, 1941 in Somerville, MA and spent her early years in the Kurn Hattin School for Girls, in Saxon River, VT. After leaving the orphanage, and several moves later, Carol settled in Littleton, MA where she graduated from high school and later attended Newbury College in Boston. After moving to the Valley (Hadley and Easthampton), Carol worked at the Maple Street School in Easthampton, then RL Truhart Construction Company. She received her real estate salesperson license and worked with Pichette Real Estate then later at Riverside Industries . Carol then worked for the Starvos Center for Independent Living in Amherst, and the Parman Associated Hotels.While working full time her entire adult life, Carol worked nights at several restaurants. For 45 years, she waitressed and bartended at Howard Johnson, Colonial Hilton, the Lobster Pot, and has been at the Blue Bonnet Diner in Northampton for over 40 years. She always enjoyed talking for hours to her customers, many of whom became good friends. Carol made friends easily, sharing as much fun as sorrow, always willing to share what she had. Those who knew and loved Carol, knew that she had a big heart, enjoyed the simpler side of life, and had the strength and courage comparable to that of a warrior. Carol was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Carol is survived by her daughter, Joan E. Barrett and John Mancini of Sarasota, FL, and her son Craig Barrett, and his wife Joanne, the best daughter in law in the world, of Easthampton; her sister, Joanne E. Kritzman of Malvern, PA; step-grandchildren, Tom and Pete Moszynski (Sarah Shepard), of Easthampton; her Godchild Jayla Rene Brewer; and her very best friend, Cheryl Wilburne. Carol also leaves behind the countless friends she cherished. She was predeceased by a sister, Marion Cunningham Hartnett, and a brother, Allen Cunningham.Carol's funeral services will be private. In her generous spirit, those wishing may make a memorial donation to Dakin Humane Society."
