David E. Barrett

"Belchertown – David E. Barrett, 70, of Federal St., died Monday in Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth, NH. Born in Belchertown, Dec. 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Paul and Gladys (Styles) Barrett. Dave was a lifelong resident and a 1951 graduate of Belchertown High School. Mr. Barrett retired in 1998 after working for the Belchertown Department of Public Works as the highway superintendent for 20 years. He was a member of the Belchertown Congregational Church and a long time member of its choir. He belonged to the Vernon Lodge of Masons and served as their organist for many years. He was also a member of the Belchertown Lions Club and was the recipient of the club’s Melvin Jones Award. Following his retirement, he developed his creativity and patience in his furniture restoration. Dave will be deeply missed by his wife of 44 years Martha (Dorey) Barrett, his two sons, Steven and his wife Brenda, David, Jr. and his wife Dawn, along with his grandchildren, Miranda, Adam, Mathew and Emily all of Belchertown. He is also survived by his five brothers Warren of Belchertown, Paul of Virginia, Bruce, Forrest and Herbert all of Florida, along with his six sisters Pauline and Carol Barrett of S. Hadley, Barbara Ratcliff of Texas, Joanne Conway of Ludlow and Charlene Small of New Mexico and Judy of Florida. Funeral services will be Monday August 23 at 10:00 a.m. in the Belchertown Congregational Church, Park Street (on the common). Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St., (Rte 202). There will be a Masonic Evergreen service on Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Masonic Chips Organization, c/o either Vernon Lodge, 1 Main St, Belchertown or Eden Lodge of Masons, Ware.
