David L. Laventure
Jun 7, 1940 — Mar 29, 2026
David L. Laventure, 85, of Palmer, MA, formerly of Belchertown, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on March 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 7, 1940 in West Springfield, MA he was the son of the late Lawrence B. and Evelyn B. (Guest) Laventure.
David was a well-known and highly respected business owner in radio and television repair, earning the affectionate nickname “The TV Man” throughout his community. He attended Springfield Trade High School where he studied electronics. After graduation, he proudly served in the Air National Guard as an Electronics Technician primarily working on airplanes. Following his retirement from the Air National Guard, he went on to open his own business, Laventure TV Service, where he became one of the most reputable electronics technicians in the area. Known by many, especially while growing up, as the “Mad Scientist” David was admired for his extraordinary knowledge of electronics design, implementation and repair. To those who knew him, there was never a problem too complex- he truly could fix, design or build just about anything.
David and Carole shared a love of travel and adventure journeying together around the world with memorable trips to Bermuda, Germany, Paris, Switzerland, Italy, Alaska and many more. They especially cherished their time spent in Cape May NJ, California and New York City. They looked forward each summer to their time at Misquamicut Beach, Rhode Island where they lovingly hosted their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends at the beach, creating treasured memories that will live on for generations. Even after Carole’s passing, David lovingly continued that tradition each year.
David also had a deep love for listening to the radio. True to his lifelong passion for electronics and staying connected, he always had talk radio playing on nearly every car ride and he kept multiple radios playing throughout the house to make sure he never missed a beat. A detail that those who knew and loved him will always remember with a smile.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Carole J. (Walker) Laventure, his daughter April Cox, his brother, Allan Laventure and his parents.
David is survived by his loving children: Michael Laventure (Maryann), Suzanne Markham (Eric), Sallyanne Laventure, and his son-in-law, Steve Cox. He also leaves behind his sisters, Linda Bardsley and Diane Kernitzki and his best friend, Bobby Donovan.
He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Matthew Cox, Brittany Cox, Jennifer Binkney, David Laventure, Evelyn Laventure and Christopher Carter; as well as his great-grandchildren: Brandon, Ethan, Gabriella, Melody, Sunni and Luna. He also leaves behind his beloved dog and companion, Tabby.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Beers and Story Belchertown Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at South Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
