"Dean Albert Clausing, 56, passed away Sept. 11 at home surrounded by his family after a fight against cancer. Born May 2, 1949 in Springfield, MO, he is the son of LTC (RET) Gerald A. and Winifred L. (Hargrove) Clausing of Ft. Belvoir, VA. Dean grew up in a military family and lived in many different states and countries; he resided in Holyoke for over 25 years. His life work and passions were bike racing and skiing. Dean was a ski coach at many schools and colleges in the valley and ran the Mt. Tom Ski School for many years. He worked most recently at Berkshire East Ski Area as a ski coach and also at Greniers Photography. Besides his parents he is survived by his wife of 23 years, Renee Provost-Clausing. He also leaves a brother Donald and his wife Emmy Clausing of Northampton and San Francisco, CA and his father- and mother-in-law LTC (RET) LeRoy and Madeleine Provost of Holyoke, MA. Dean was predeceased by his brother Stephen D. Clausing in 2001. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story S.Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St. (Rte 116). A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice Life Care, 28 Appleton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. "
