Dorothy J. Roccanti

" Dorothy J. (Boyd) Roccanti, 83, of Chauncey Walker St., died on February 25, 2006 surrounded by her loving family at the Holyoke Soldiers Home after a long illness. Born in Aredale, Iowa, July 31, 1922, she graduated from the Greene High School there. She served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII, settling in Worcester, MA in 1944. Living in Springfield, Wilbraham, Belchertown and moving to Palmer, Alaska in 1989 returning to Belchertown in 1996. Dorothy was a Library Aide for the Springfield School Dept. retiring in 1983. She was a member of the American Legion Post 239 and a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church both in Belchertown. She leaves her husband of 57 years, Alfred J. and six children Susan A. Robinson of Monson, Edward J. of Worcester, Barbara J. Kelleher of Wilbraham, Michael J. of Suffield, CT, Robert B. of Ludlow and Mary Meckling of Port St. John, FL. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren, seven great grand children as well as a sister Roberta Barth of Greene, Iowa. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband Edward J. Roccanti who died in WWII in 1944. A funeral service will be Thursday at 9:15am from the BEERS & STORY BELCHERTOWN FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am in St. Francis Church. Burial will follow in South Cemetery. Calling hours are Wed. from 2:00 –4:00 & 7:00-9:00pm.
