"Palmer - Eileen A. (Allen) Melnick, passed away at home on September 15, 2017 with the love of her family surrounding her. Born June 8, 1928 in Feeding Hills, she was the daughter of Frank and Ruth (O'Connor) Allen. Eileen grew up in Agawam and was a graduate of Agawam High School. She worked as a clerk in the accounting office of the former New England Tel. and Tel. Co. from 1946 until her retirement in 1983. She has lived in Thorndike with her son and his family since 2015, previously a longtime resident of Ludlow. She was a member at First Church in Ludlow, and Eileen took much enjoyment in reading her Danielle Steele books, doing crosswords and word searchers along with family vacations at the Cape. In 2016, Eileen was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Steven Melnick. She will be deeply missed by son, John Melnick and Patty Veighey with whom she lived, along with her dear grandchildren, Christopher, Ashley, Nathaniel, Noel and Noah along with extended family. Besides her husband, Eileen was also predeceased by her brothers, Howard, Richard and Frank Jr. A very special thank you to Fresenius Dialysis in Palmer along with Baystate Hospice for their care and comfort of Eileen and her family. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 18th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Beers and Story Palmer Funeral Home with a service Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
