Ernest M. Gay

"Belchertown - Ernest M. "Skip" Gay, Jr., 66, died unexpectedly on April 20, 2015. He was born October 28, 1948, son of Ernest M. Sr., and Loretta (Murry). Skip has been a lifelong resident of Belchertown and retired in 2002 after 32 years of employment as Sergeant at the Belchertown Police Dept. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during Vietnam and was also a member of the Vernon Lodge of Masons. In he leisure, he enjoyed the game of golf. Skip will be dearly missed by his fiancée, Linda L. DeBettencourt, with whom he lived, along with his two sons, Erik M. Gay and his wife Terry, and Matthew R. Gay all of Belchertown. Skip will also be remembered by his five grandchildren, Kristopher, Keira, Savannah, Emily, and Katie, along with his sister-in-law Madelene Gay and Linda's three sons and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Gary in 2002. A visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home with a funeral service on Thursday at the Hope United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be privately held at a later date.
