Floyd W. Downey

"South Hadley - Floyd W. Downey, 86, passed away on March 4, 2012 surrounded by his family in Holyoke Medical Center. He was born August 6, 1925 in Holyoke, MA, son of the late Hampton and Fannie (Hall) Downey. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Floyd retired in 1987, after working for 15 years as a supervisor for Oaks Electrical Supply in Holyoke. After retiring, Floyd enjoyed traveling by bus to Wildwood, NJ and coastal Maine. In addition to his traveling, he worked with Horizon Tours coordinating several trips to lunch-theater events at the Log Cabin and Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham, NY. He loved watching collegiate basketball games and was an avid Boston Celtics fan. He was also a member of the Counsel on Aging in South Hadley and attended Immaculate Conception Church in Holyoke. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Dorothy L.(Bineau) Downey of South Hadley. He also leaves his two children, Barbara (Downey) Ferst of S.Hadley and John Downey and his wife Sydni of Kingston, NY along with his two grandsons Noal and Andrew Downey and many nieces, nephews and friends. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Thursday, March 8, 2012 for 11:15 a.m. to process to a Funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery on Main St. Agawam. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4:00- 7:00 PM at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St., S. Hadley. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 54 N.
