Harry Charles Ryder

" Harry C. Ryder, 80, of Belmont Ave, died February 4 at his home in Monson. Born in Dudley, October 30, 1923, he grew up in Southbridge, lived briefly in Palmer, before settling in Monson to raise his family. Harry served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps and later became an active member of the American Legion in Monson. He spent his working years as a head lineman for Massachusetts Electric Company before retiring after 43 years. Harry had a heart of gold and loved a good poker game. He spent many Christmas seasons helping the local fire departments put up the holiday lights. In his later years, he enjoyed travelling. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Ruth McMahon in 1982. Harry will be sadly missed by his long time companion Ruth Monette with whom he lived, along with his two sons, Neal M. and John C. of Cape Cod, his three daughters, Gail E. and her husband Robert Stearns of Cropseyville, NY, Kathleen M. Coyle and her companion James Gow of Monson, and Colleen P. and her husband Dino Russo of Palmer. He will also be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren Heather, Renee, Jacob, Amber, Jesse, Dominic and Zachury. Harry also leaves two brothers Danny of Webster and Stewart of Chicopee and a sister Josephin Schaeffer of Tampa, FL and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six siblings. A memorial service will be Monday, February 9 at 12:00 noon in the Beers & story Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the spring in Bethany Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00- 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The family requests that donations be made in his memory to Quaboag Valley Hospice, 42 B. Wright St, palmer, 01069."
