James Edward Beagle

"Monson - James E. Beagle, 81, died unexpectedly on March 21, 2019 in Springfield. Born June 20, 1937 in Bennington, VT, he was the son of George H. and Winifred Martha (Brunette) Beagle. He grew up in Turin, NY, served in the US Army from 1960 - 1962, and has lived in Monson since 1980. Jim loved trains and worked for more than 40 years on various railroads, including the New York Central Railroad, Central Vermont Railway, and New England Central Railroad. His vacation trips often included sightseeing into random rail yards, and there was never a conversation that he couldn't somehow incorporate a train story! He also enjoyed model railroading, camping and traveling. But above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family and Marly his "granddog". He was a communicant of St. Thomas Church and a member of Amherst Railway Society. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 46 years, Jean Anne (Gazin) Beagle, along with his 2 children John Edward Beagle of Ft. Worth, TX and Janet Marie Beagle of W. Lafayette, IN. He also leaves 4 siblings, Joseph Beagle of Lowville, NY and Stephen Beagle of Ravena NY, Jacquelyn Beagle and Michelle Beagle, both of Turin, NY. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Susan Kapfer and Cynthia Cassell. A Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, March 26 at 10:00 a.m in St. Thomas Church. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m.to process to church. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Monson. Calling hours will be Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St (Rte 20).
