James E. Dunn

"James E. Dunn passed away at home on Sunday morning, June 23, 2019 surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Jim was born May 20, 1949 in Worcester, MA to John E. and Corinne M. (Saulnier) Dunn. He graduated from Westfield State College in 1971 and married Martha Bohanon in 1972. Throughout their married years, he held many sales positions selling industrial chemicals, printed materials, and church photo directories. His work had him traveling the New England States and he could recommend the best restaurant, hotel, or route to take. He belonged to and was active in the Congregational Church of South Hadley Falls until it’s closing, when he became an active member of the United Methodist Church in South Hadley. He was also a Board Member of Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Pantry and delivered meals for Food for Friends. Jim enjoyed gardening, day lilies, and various painting or construction projects around the home. Jim had a spirit of generosity for anyone who needed help and was devoted to his family and his church. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Irene. He will be deeply missed by his wife Martha, his son Timothy and wife Alice of Taneytown, MD, his daughter Heather and husband John Hackett of Granby, MA, and his son Gregory and wife Sarah of South Hadley, MA; seven grandchildren, Ethan, Michael, and Grace Dunn, Breann and Daniel Hackett, and Amaya and Brady Dunn. Jim leaves warm memories of time spent together with his loving sister-in-law Janet Pananos, her husband John, and with many friends.During his 2 ½ year battle with gastric cancer he displayed strong determination and character, never complained, and never lost his sense of humor. The family would like to thank Dr. John McCann, all the staff at D’Amour Center and Baystate Hospice for helping Jim to live and enjoy life after his diagnosis. Calling hours will be held on Thursday June 27, 2019 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home.
