Janet Sue Gummeson

"Janet Sue (Brown) Gummeson, 46, of Belchertown, MA died Friday, July 7. Janet was born in Racine, WI on June 4, 1960, to Gladys (Smith) Brown of Racine and the late Quentin Brown. She and her husband Joel, of 25 years, relocated to Belchertown, MA in 1988 where they have been raising their children - Jeremy (24), Jeffry (21), James (19) Jordan (14), Josiah (11) Jillian (8), and Janelle (15 mos). She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Together, with her husband Joel, was actively involved in marriage ministry at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield MA and a certified teaching couple for Couple to Couple League International. Janet had a passion for the MOMS ministry in her church, literature, music, international travel, and most of all her family. She has also served as a private consultant and advocate on Women’s Health Issues, was a certified childbirth educator, and was the founder of “Joyful Birthing”. In addition to her husband and seven children, she is survived by her mother Gladys, her brother, Kevin (Sue) Brown, sister-in-law Joy (Clark Quandahl), sister-in-law Barbara Brown, nephews (Quentin & Robert Brown and Eric Quandahl), and many dear friends. Janet was preceded in death by her father and her brother Quentin (Bob) R. Brown. Visitation will be on Monday, July 10 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St. The funeral will be Tuesday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield. The burial service will be on Wednesday, July 12 at 2 p.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park in Racine, WI.
