Joan Anne Gay

"Ware - Joan A. "Auntie" (Slate) Gay, 78, passed away on August 8, 2016 in Kindred Health Care in Agawam. She was born June 22, 1938 in Chicopee, MA, daughter of William T. and Doris E. (Martin) Slate. Joan was raised in Belchertown and moved to Ware 30 years ago. She formerly worked at the Belchertown State School, at Leopold's restaurant as a cook in Belchertown, and as a manager at the Grog Shop in Belchertown and the Gin Mill in Bondsville. Joan loved to play Bingo and was a very good pool player. She was predeceased by her husband James R. Gay, daughter, Debbie Gay and a sister Judith Moineau. She is survived by two sisters, Doris "Babe" Leonard of Monson and Dianne Kendall of Belchertown. She also leaves many nephews. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 18 at 11:00 am at the United Church of Christ, in Ware. Beers and Story Palmer Funeral Home, was entrusted with the arrangements.
