John L. Sherman

"Brimfiled - John L. Sherman, Sr., 88, passed away on April 6, 2015 at Harrington Memorial Hospital. He was born October 27, 1926 in Stafford Springs, CT, the son of George B. Sherman Sr. and Hester (Landen) Sherman. John was a lifelong resident of Brimfield and graduated from Hitchock Academy. He was a mail carrier until 1970 when he joined with his nephew, Bob Hanna, in J & B Contractors. John then went on to be the superintendent of the Highway Department for many years, until his retirement. He served as a member of the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Lions Club and fondly remembered by his family as a hard worker. Taking great pride in his property, his home and yard were always meticulously maintained. In 1996, he was predeceased by his wife Pia (Bracci) and he will be greatly missed by his son, Alan Sherman and his wife Nancy of Woodstock, CT, his brother, Charles "Bud" W. Sherman of Brimfield along with 6 grandchildren, Sarah, Justin, Ryan, Nicole, Annalise and Jonathan and 3 great grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his children, Priscilla, John, Jr., and James as well as siblings, Grace Arbour, George B., Jr., and Milton H. Sherman. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 18th at 9:00 a.m. at the Brimfield Congregational Church with burial in Brimfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
