Joseph P. Skowyra

" Joseph P. Skowyra, Jr., 72, of Dunhamtown Palmer Road, died Saturday evening at his home. Born in Brimfield, March 21, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha (Tabak) Skowyra. He grew up and lived his whole life in Brimfield, graduating from Hitchcock Academy in 1950. He operated the family dairy farm that he took over from his father before he began his work for Taylor Rental in Agawam. He was with the company for 37 years, retiring as general manager in 2004. Mr. Skowyra was a communicant of St. Christopher’s Church and a former CCD teacher for many years. Besides his family, his love was the outdoors, the woods and the family farm. He was predeceased by his wife of 40yrs Jean (Tetreault) Skowyra in 1996. He is survived by his three sons, David and his wife Karen, Leslie and his wife Christine all of Brimfield, Steven and his wife Cynthia of W. Warren, and his two daughters Cynthia Skowyra of Brimfield and Sarah of Portland, Oregon, along with two brothers Anthony and Theodore of Brimfield, four sisters Anne Haley of Monson, Clara Sellon of Woburn, Theresa Homsher of Cerritos, CA, and Alice Smedile of Upland, CA. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, and 52 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday December 10 at 9:30 a.m. from the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Christopher’s Church, Brimfield. Burial will follow in Brimfield Cemetery.
