Michael Martel

"Granby- Michael R. Martel, Sr 66, died on May 18, 2019. Born in Holyoke on September 15, 1952, he was the son of Aime and Alyce (Gates) Martel. Michael has lived in Belchertown for the past couple of years, and prior to that, he was a longtime resident of Granby. He worked as a Hydroelectric Operator at Holyoke Gas & Electric. In his over 30 years with the company, he grew to love the Connecticut river and shared that love with his children. In his leisure, he enjoyed working on his gardens and koi ponds, restoring antique tractors, and collecting antique and unique knick knacks. Michael will be missed by his three children, Michael Martel, Jr. and his partner, Jennifer Zelasko, of W.Brookfield, Megan Bagg and her husband Eric, of South Hadley, and Matthew Martel and his wife, Michelle of Wilsonville, OR. He also leaves 4 grandchildren, Charlotte and Evangeline Bagg, Piper Martel, and Matthew Martel. He also leaves his siblings, David and Eddie Bissailon and Shirley Pierson. Visitation will be Thursday May 23rd at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home from 4:00 with closing words shared at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to D'Amour Center for Cancer Care, 3350 Main St, Springfield, MA 01107."
