Philip Opielowski

"Palmer- Philip Opielowski, 65 ,a lifelong resident of Palmer, passed away on July 28,2018 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born May 19,1953 in Palmer,Ma. son of the late Stanley and Stephanie ( Mozdzierz) Opielowski. Philip grew up on River St. in Thorndike and was a graduate of Palmer High School in 1971. He retired from Federal Paper Board/Caraustar in Thorndike as a supervisor after working for 33 years. Philip was a railroad enthusiast and he was a wealth of information for the historical accuracy of Palmer. He was member of the Palmer Railroad Advisory Board. He also wrote many articles in the Model Railroad Magazine as well as the editor of the book One Town and Seven Railroads. He was also a talented woodworker and made many gifts for his family. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 22 years, Brenda (Murphy) Opielowski of Palmer, two daughters, Valerie Maldonado of Palmer and Catherine Lawless (Joe) of Wilbraham, and a step daughter Erica Murphy of Ludlow. He is also survived by two sisters Dorothy Warakomski (Peter) of Thorndike, Joan Norris (Charles) of Monson, two sister in laws, Pamela Kenniston and Charlene Gryszowka. He also leaves four grandchildren, Taylor, Evan, Chloe , Macayla and step grandson Adam, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister Sally Jekanowski and brother in law Bryan Murphy. All services are private and Beers and Story Palmer Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
