Robert H. Heffernan, 94, passed away September 5, 2025, in his home at Christopher Heights surrounded by his loved ones.  Born in Youngstown, OH on August 8, 1931, he was the son of Robert M. and Margaret M (Lennahan) Heffernan.  Robert graduated from Fernandina High School and was the halfback for the high school football team, which won the state championship in 1950.  Robert proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. ESSEX CV-9 from 1950-1954 where he also enjoyed boxing for the Navy.  As an honorable veteran, Robert was a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW.  He owned and operated the former Crystal Springs Bakery in Belchertown.    Robert leaves behind four children, Michael R. Heffernan and his wife Michele, Margaret M Monette and her husband Brian, Terrence A Heffernan and his wife Cyndi, Carol Grondin and her husband Joe. He also leaves behind his longtime companion, Nancy Dahlquist, and her four children.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael E. Heffernan, Sean P. Heffernan, Nathaniel R. Monette, Melissa A. Falls, Elicia J. Edwards, Alora K. Heffernan, and Trevor A Heffernan, along with 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  To honor Robert's memory, please consider donations in his memory to a Veteran Organization. Robert will be laid to rest with military honors at the MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon on Tuesday Sept 23 at 1pm.  Following the cemetery service, a celebration of life at the American Legion in Jeffrey, NH will take place. A gathering at Christopher Heights will be Oct 4 at 1pm.  Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Chapel Service with military honors

Robert will be laid to rest with military honors at the MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon on Tuesday Sept 23 at 1pm. Following the cemetery service, a celebration of life at the American Legion in Jeffrey, NH will take place.
