Thomas G. Mercier

"Thomas G. Mercier Sr., 52, passed away unexpectedly on June 28, 2018. Born July 8, 1965 in Holyoke, MA, son of the late Charles and Norma (Girard) Mercier. He was raised in South Hadley and was a resident of Granby. He was a 1984 graduate of South Hadley High School. Thom was a past President of Mercier Carpet Services, Inc. in West Springfield for over 30 years where he was able to meet many people and treasure the friendships created along the way. He was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hunting, skiing, and snowmobiling. Thom had a soft spot for farm animals and at any given time would have a barnful at his house. Thom also was an avid and animated story teller, mesmerizing people around him with many tales and memories. Thom had a huge heart and was a very generous man, but above all, he loved his children. Thom is survived by his children, Jessica T. Mercier of Newtown, CT, Natalie R. Mercier of Broomfield, CO, and Thomas G. Mercier Jr. of Granby, as well as his two step children, Natalie and Alexander Danos of Granby. He also leaves his sister, Lori Aube and her husband Pierre of Russell, MA, and his two brothers, Chuck Mercier and his wife Lynn and their three children, Charley, Gabriella and Oliver all of Granby, and Douglas Mercier and wife Kara and their two children, Jordyn and Emma all of South Hadley. Thom also leaves behind his companion, friend, and former spouse, Kathryn C. Mercier of Granby. Calling hours will be Monday, July 9, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Beers & Story Funeral Home in South Hadley. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.at St. Patrick’s Church in South Hadley. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. A memorial service also will be held to celebrate Thom’s life at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Holyoke, MA at 2pm on July 10th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Providence Ministries in Holyoke and/or the Shriner’s Hospital in Springfield.
