Vernon J. Degnan

" Vernon J. Degnan, 87, of Maxwell Rd. died Sept. 14 at Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer. Born in Lawrence, MA on December 13, 1914, he was the son of the late James and Flora (Zink) Degnan. Vernon had lived in Monson for many years, where he raised his family before moving to Rockland, ME in 1980. He then returned to Monson two years ago. He was employed at Smith & Wesson and retired in 1980 after 14 years. He also worked as a textile dyer throughout New England. Vernon is a member of the Rockland Congregational Church in Rockland, ME as well as being a Mason in Monson. He enjoyed working and spending time outdoors. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Elsie (Thomas), and two sons, Donald and his wife Marcia of Palmer and their children Scott, Eric, and Wendy Sandoval, and another son Richard and his wife Cynthia of Monson and their children Michael and Amy Degnan. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison Degnan and Serena Sandoval. Vernon was predeceased by a sister, Doris Dussault in 1983. Calling hours will be held Monday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. All other services are private.
