David Walton Burgess

David Walton Burgess, (86), of Monson, MA, went home to be with his Lord on September 27, 2024. He passed into eternity with his loving family by his bedside. 

Dave was born on August 5, 1938, in Ware, MA. He was the son of Charles and Myrle Burgess of West Springfield, Ma. He graduated from David Prouty High School, Spencer, MA in 1957. He went to Northeastern Bible College in Essex Fells, New Jersey, where he met his wife.

He was preceded by his beloved wife of 57 years Roberta Hipsman Burgess. He was a loving father of Deborah Thresher (Alan)of Central, SC, Bernice Begley (loving caregiver) of Palmer, MA, and Rebekah Proto (Mariano) of Carmelo, Uruguay.

It was a devoted Papa of 14 grandchildren - Jeremy, Melissa, Nathaniel, Naomi, Timothy, Elizabeth, Bethany, Abigail, Zachary, Rachel, Samuel, Jacob, Hannah, and Enzo. 

He was a proud great grandfather of 15 - Kaylee, Isabella, Phoebe, Caleb, Mia, Abby, Emma, Levi, Noah, Kit, Brianna, Emerson, Eli, Arthur and Madison. 

He was blessed to have a loving extended family, which included Robin Page (Caregiver), In-laws, many nephews & nieces, and church family & friends. 

Dave graduated in 1969 with his LPN license. He worked for many years at Monson Development Center, Monson, MA. He enjoyed work and making a difference to anybody he met on the hill.

After retirement he work as a food demonstrator at Walmart in Ware, MA. Once again, a job that he found delightful. 

At their Monson home, Dave and Bert we’re always happy to host family gatherings and entertain guests. The door was always open to family and friends for either a quick visit to chat, or an extended stay. 

He enjoyed traveling, designing plans for houses, and whistling. 

He served his Lord and was active in the visitation ministry, Sunday-school superintendent, older youth coordinator, Head of flower committee, deacon, Christian School administrator, and help start the media ministry. 

Family and friends will honor and remember Dave’s life by gathering for calling hours at Faith Baptist church 251 Shearer St., Palmer, MA on Saturday, October 5 from 2 to 3 PM. His memorial service will follow the calling hours at 3 PM.
